Topic 3 - Character

Slide 1 -An explanation of how authors use characterization, and how characters are created and characterized, including culture, physical characteristics, actions, emotional characteristics
Slide 2 -  Protagonist, antagonist, foil, and stereotyped or stock characters - including examples of each from stories we have read this year, an exploration of how other characters affect the characterization of the main character, how tone represents character
Slide 3 -  The difference between round and flat characters,  the difference between dynamic and static characters, examples of each from stories we have read this year
Slide 4 - Character-driven stories versus plot-driven stories, including examples of each, based on this year's readings
Slide 5 - An explanation of how your knowledge of character will help you appreciate literature more

Slide 1 - A definition of tone in literature, irony, and situational irony, including one original example, and one example from a story we have read this year

Topic 5: Greek Mythology

Slide 1 - A definition of myth, and important themes in Greek mythology 
Slide 2 -  Greek creation myths - what is important in creation myths, how the relationship between god and man is expressed
Slide 3 - Hero myths and examples of heroic traits based on myth, definition of epic, including examples
Slide 4 -  An explanation of how mythology relates to contemporary literature
Slide 5 - An explanation of how your knowledge of classical mythology will help you appreciate literature more

Slide 3 -  Discuss the protagonist of the novel, including how this character is created and characterized: culture, physical characteristics, actions, emotional characteristics 
Slide 4 -  An explanation of how the novel is a character-driven as well as a plot-driven story, as well as its genre. How does its genre shape its characters and plot?
Slide 5 - An explanation of how your experience reading this novel will help you appreciate literature more
